The computer was folded in half and the LCD has not worked since. The damage is mostly cosmetic and I cannot positively identify why the LCD is not working. However, both the black and white wires were crimped pretty badly. Is it likely that is the reason for the LCD to not work?

So here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure. The first two are so you can get an idea as to the condition I found it in. In the next two you can see where I spliced the two wires where they were damaged (I know it doesn't look pretty). In the following two you can see the two black wires I am referring to. Finally, I have the computer put back together but that darn screen will not work.

Does that help?

John, those "could" be your backlight wires. Unless you post an image of your LCD and the connectors, it is hard to say. Without those, you will not have a backlight. Take a flashlight and angle it against your LCD and see if you can see anything on the screen that way. I'd also suggest that you try an external monitor and see if that works okay. Hope this helps, good luck.

Update

You may have to remove the LCD from the back case. There should be either 3 or 4 small screws on either side of the LCD. Remove those to get the LCD out of the case. Fold the LCD slowly over toward the keyboard. Then you should see the "video cable" ( a flat ribbon cable that plugs into a circuit board at the top 1/3 of the panel. If you follow that ribbon cable to the bottom of the panel, slightly to the right of it, you should see the inverter cable and the inverter itself. That cable consist of a pink and a whit cable and the plug that connects to the inverter itself. See if all of that is properly connected. If it is, then you have either a broken invert, or a broken LCD. The best way to test it of course would be with an LCD tester. Those run about 1/2 the price of a new LCD and are widely available.

Thanks Mr. Turkey, for coming to my rescue again. So I posted some pictures, sorry about the quality, but you can see what I am referring to. I tried the flashlight trick and got nothing. Thoughts?

right now I agree with wesley burson. We need to see what the rest of the cables and circuitry looks like. If you can take some picture of the cable, the connector as well as the area in proximity to it

Hope these pictures help.

Yes they do, thank you. So far connectors and cable 'look' good, but you can't tell if the ribbon cable got stretched to far and ruptured somewhere in between.I'd proceed with a new cable, then an inverter and last a new LCD ( again this may not be necessary if you can test the LCD first). The cost of the cable as well as the inverter are very reasonable.

Thank you, both of you. I will give it all a shot and see what comes of it. Hopefully I can report back some success.

Those are the wifi antennas. the black one is the main antenna, and the white is the auxiliary antenna. they will most likely run all the way to the top of the screen and be attached to copper pads. the chip is a wifi card. do remember where each antenna plugs in. if not you'll get bad signal.http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/eshowmall/An...

try turning on the computer and testing the leads that go to the inverter from the main board with a multimeter. if there's voltage of about 12+ volts and the backlight stays off it maybe the inverter.
