Camera Will Not Power On

Nothing is happening when you try turning your camera on.

No Battery

Have you inserted an available battery into the camera’s battery slot? Double-check the battery slot to make sure the battery is inserted. If there is no battery inserted, then you will need to obtain and insert a battery. Batteries may be available at your local electronics store and are available online at the Nikon website, www.nikonusa.com.

Battery Not Charged

If you have inserted a battery into the camera’s battery slot, but the camera will still not turn on, then your battery may not be charged. To check, insert your battery into the battery charger and plug the charger into an electrical outlet. If the charger displays an orange light, then your battery is charged. A green light will display when the battery is fully charged.

Faulty Battery

If you have tried charging your battery, but the camera will still not turn on, then the battery may be faulty. A faulty battery will require the purchase of a new battery. Batteries may be available at your local electronics store and are available online at the Nikon website, www.nikonusa.com.

Faulty Charger

If you have tried charging your battery, but the charger is unresponsive and does not display an orange light (battery is charging) or green light (battery is fully charged), then your battery charger is faulty. Battery chargers may be available at your local electronics store and are available online at the Nikon website, www.nikonusa.com.

Distorted Audio

The video playback has unclear or muddled sound

Microphone Malfunction

If you tried to record a video on your Nikon Coolpix s9400, but there is no sound when you playback the video, then your microphone is faulty. Overheating, water damage, or electrical problems in the camera may cause this problem. It is recommended to shut down the camera and to wait for fifteen minutes before trying again. If this solution does not work, then you may have to replace the microphone

The Shutter Button is not Working

The shutter button is stuck, malfunctioning, and will not take a picture.

Not Enough Storage Space

First, make sure your memory card is inserted into the device. If your memory card is inserted, make sure that it has free space. Using the navigation panel, find your pictures. The camera will tell you if the memory card is fully.

If the above solutions do not work, then you may need to replace the device's memory card.

Camera Won't Take Picture

Make sure that you are pressing the shutter button down fully. When the shutter button is pressed halfway, it focuses and does not take a picture. The shutter button will only take a picture when it is fully pressed down.

If that does not solve your problem, then read on.

Shutter Button is Stuck

Make sure that the shutter button is free of debris (including sticky soda-pop, or similar sticky materials). Use a small object to clear the debris from the shutter button area. Keep in mind that you do not want to damage the button itself.

The Camera Did Not Take A Second Shot (in 3D mode)

First, try re-shooting your picture. After you have taken your first photo, put the camera in a horizontal position and line up the guide so that it frames the subject.

Make sure the surrounding area is not too dark. If the setting is too dark, then 3-D mode will not be enabled.

Faulty Shutter Button

If you have enough storage space, you are pressing all the way down on the shutter button, and your shutter button is free of debris, it is likely your device might have a short and may need to be replaced. Please follow the guide on replacing the shutter button.

Lens Does Not Zoom Properly

The lenses is unable to extend, retract, or stuck out-of-position.

Dust or Other Particles Stuck Between the Lens

The lens may be stuck because dust or other particles have become stuck between the lens. This is a fairly easy fix: just blow compressed air between the gaps around lens barrel, you will then have to push the dust particles out of the camera. If this solution does not work, you may have to replace the lens entirely. Instructions for this procedure can be found in our guidebook.

The Lens is Stuck in an Extended Position

In this case, the problem might be with the camera's battery power (it might be too low and the camera, therefore, will not bring the lens out). Try connecting your camera to its charger and/or check the battery (which may need replacement). If this does not fix the issue of the lens' extension, or functionality, then you may need to replace the lens.
