The laptop will not power on when the power button is pressed.

Make sure that the charger is plugged into an outlet and that the connection between the charger and the laptop has not come loose.

Laptop is running slower than normal.

The keys are misaligned or debris is jamming the keys. Use canned air to blow out debris. Gently brush the keys with a tissue or microfiber cloth to remove the debris.

Check the disk drive for any obvious obstructions or debris which could be jamming it. If there are no visible obstructions, try manually tugging on the drive to test if the drive feels stuck. Otherwise, you can manually eject the disc by pushing a pin into the pin sized hole in the front of the drive.

The laptop is overheating and shutting down.

Use canned air to blow out the dust that is clogging the air vents.

When you try to close the case it pops open or hangs open slightly.

If the hinges are broken then they need to be replaced. Replacing the hinges is relatively simple. Pop the keyboard out of its socket by pulling it gently from the corner. After disconnecting the keyboard, open the top cover of the laptop. From here, you can unscrew the screws connecting the hinges to the base plate. Replace the hinges with new hinges, or if it is a problem with the screws, find new screws which match the original’s size.

If the top case is warped, especially in the corners, it can prevent the case from closing properly. Attempt to bend the case back into shape. If this does not work, you should replace the top case completely. You can find a guide to replace the top case here.
