Not Powering On

The laptop will not power on when the power button is pressed.

Unplugged Charger

Make sure that the charger is plugged into an outlet and that the connection between the charger and the laptop has not come loose.

Battery is Loose

It’s possible that the battery has come loose from its holding case. Ensure that the battery is fitted tightly into the battery slot.

Battery is Dead

Your battery cannot hold a charge due to use and wear. No matter how well you treat your laptop’s battery, it will eventually die. You should replace your battery by following this guide.

Device is Running Slowly

Laptop is running slower than normal.

Run Virus Scan

Sometimes there can be a virus or malware on your laptop that will use up your laptop resources and therefore will slow it’s performance down. Run a virus scan to check for and remove any problematic software on your laptop.

Uninstall/Disable Unnecessary Programs

Your laptop may run slower than normal if you have too many unnecessary programs installed. Uninstall programs that you do not regularly use. The most common cause of a slow computer is too many startup programs. Therefore, disable unnecessary start up programs and run a disk cleanup.

Not enough RAM.

Sometimes your laptop will run slower than normal if you do not have enough ram available. Your laptop’s ability to run multiple programs at the same time hinges in part on its RAM. You should upgrade your RAM by following this guide.

Device is Shutting Down Slowly

Your laptop either does not respond when the shut down process begins or the shut down process takes a long time, while seemingly not doing anything.

Drivers Interfering With Shutdown

It’s possible that a driver on your device is interfering with your laptop’s ability to shut down. Try removing drivers and restarting the laptop to see if you can determine if a particular driver is at fault.

Hard Drive is Broken

A hard drive nearing the end of its lifespan is a common issue. Hard drives are made of moving parts that spin thousands of times a day and they do wear down. Your hard drive has been damaged or has become worn with use. You should replace the hard drive by following this replacement guide.

Keyboard is Not Responding

Any time you press a key on the keyboard and find that the computer does not respond to the input. If the keyboard is not working try the following.

Keyboard Needs to be Cleaned

The keys are misaligned or debris is jamming the keys. Use canned air to blow out debris. Gently brush the keys with a tissue or microfiber cloth to remove the debris.

Keys Need to be Replaced

If a surface cleaning does not restore function, gently pry the keys out of place to reveal the area underneath. Clean away any obvious obstructions blocking the function of the key and replace the key.

Keyboard Malfunction Due to Mechanical Failure

If the keys on the keyboard do not function despite having no obstructions, it is usually due to a mechanical failure. You can replace the keyboard by following this guide.

Optical Drive Internal Mechanism Broken or Drive Has No Power

Your optical disk drive won’t open.

Optical Drive Jammed

Check the disk drive for any obvious obstructions or debris which could be jamming it. If there are no visible obstructions, try manually tugging on the drive to test if the drive feels stuck. Otherwise, you can manually eject the disc by pushing a pin into the pin sized hole in the front of the drive.

Optical Drive Not Responding

If the disk doesn’t spin at all or makes disturbing noises the drive may simply be dead. The Drive can be replaced by following this guide.

LED Display Not Working

Laptop screen is flickering, cracked, has dead pixels, or not displaying an image.

Damaged Screen

You will need to replace screen with a new one. Follow our guide for replacing the screen.

Device Overheating

The laptop is overheating and shutting down.

Clean Dust From Vents

Use canned air to blow out the dust that is clogging the air vents.

CPU Overheating

Sometimes the thermal paste is worn out or dry and needs to be replaced. Follow this guide to apply new thermal paste [LINK TO THERMAL PASTE GUIDE]

Fan Is Not Running

If the fan is not running and the laptop is overheating you should replace the fan with a new working one. Follow this guide to replace the fan [LINK TO REPLACE FAN GUIDE]

Laptop Case Not Closing

When you try to close the case it pops open or hangs open slightly.

Hinges are Broken

If the hinges are broken then they need to be replaced. Replacing the hinges is relatively simple. Pop the keyboard out of its socket by pulling it gently from the corner. After disconnecting the keyboard, open the top cover of the laptop. From here, you can unscrew the screws connecting the hinges to the base plate. Replace the hinges with new hinges, or if it is a problem with the screws, find new screws which match the original’s size.

Case is Warped

If the top case is warped, especially in the corners, it can prevent the case from closing properly. Attempt to bend the case back into shape. If this does not work, you should replace the top case completely. You can find a guide to replace the top case here.

Service Door Is Cracked

The laptop service door is cracked or the screws on it are stripped. Follow this guide to replace the service door.
