I have a touch screen variant of this, with a broken hinge on the right side. But the LCD /bezel is so thin, I'm convinced it will crack if I try to use a pry stick/spudger type tool to take the LCD back cover away from the LCD.
Has anyone worked on one of these with some luck?

Dell's touch panels tend to be assembly only and they're almost all assembled in such a way there's no good way to open them and just swap the fused glass and screen so theyr'e not cheap :-(. They can be $300 or more, dependent on the panel resolution and laptop. You'll probably have to replace the assembly as a complete unit.
Use this guide to get the laptop open enough, and you will have access to the base hinges. Once you have that done, you can disconnect the wireless antennas and then put a new assembly on the laptop.
