Students: Read this before claiming any of my pages.
If you are part of a student group and claim one of my Device pages or Wikis, please respect these guidelines:
- Only change content that needs to be revised. Leave working content alone.
- If the original content is mostly usable, it's best to do a revision with the original content and formatting preserved as much as possible.
- If any information is removed without replacement, verify it is inaccurate if known by others. If there is not enough time to verify it, please understand I did so personally before including it.
- If you find any content you can't verify but think it needs work (Ex: Information on how to use a certain game controller on PC), revise it in its current form.
- If such content is included, only replace the parts that need replacement - do not remove it or change everything. I've personally tested it and know it to work.
- Do not change the following:
- Non-patrol reputation (This is set high enough to prevent problems for me and established users who know what they are doing).
- TOC inclusion (Note: If removed for editing, add it back. This is fine if you need to remove it for the project term).
If these guidelines are respected, I do not have a problem with student edits. I know how I handle it is more unconventional then other pages since I will centralize common problems (and their workarounds if I know what to do) to make the information easier to find.
Regarding major changes beyond normal editing: If you are considering a major change, it's best to err on the side of caution and use the existing formatting and replace that section. In most cases, the content is (generally) laid out in such a way that the only requirements are a rewrite on the section that is being changed. In most cases, there is no need to completely rework how I wrote the original content.

回答“Is it possible to add qi wireless charging?”Yes and no. Yes, it’s possible to add standard speed charging *but* it requires a cheap case you don’t mind hacking up (eBay). Get 2 or 3 $5 cases from eBay, plug the coil into the port and then see which parts you need to cut. First one is most likely sacrificial, second is your real attempt and the third is a backup. The Qi charging probably isn’t going to happen. Don’t expect NFC payments to work either since the coil has to be inside the phone and configured to work with it in the secure enclave. You may have already known but I'm giving you a heads up because the S3 was from the ISIS Mobile failure and may have never had any real options for it so you may not be aware. The best way to do it is to use a utility knife or an Exacto knife, but scissors will work. Pick a case you like that looks serviceable (must be TPU) and you can conceal the coil. If you use something like a Speck, that’s your real attempt; NOT a practice run since you may need a dremel with how thick they are.
回答“Folder With "?" Mark Into Apple Logo Into Circle With Line & Repeat”Did you change the HD cable? You can’t ever trust the factory ones on these with SSDs - the rough chassis wears them out and the SATA II/III lottery makes it so you don't know if it'll work. It's better to replace it with a known compatible cable that's SATA III ready. Get a new cable for the machine and that always cures these issues. Refer to this guide for a replacement and install instructions. Patch the cable using my instructions on this post before installation.
回答“Wont charge or turn on? Thermometer on battery comes up?”Is the battery original or a replacement? If the battery is original (check for DOM printing), start there due to the age of the phone. A lot of these have batteries from 2015 and they’re all old enough cell resistance is becoming a problem. Consider yourself lucky you don’t have an Active; you need to ruin the $100+ display to change anything inside the phone. Don’t spend too much since a lot of the S6 batteries now are 90-95% health refurbs with some being 80-89% health refurbs, especially on eBay. It probably wouldn’t hurt to caution the customer of this possibility if you’re doing it for someone else. IPA has water in it which doesn’t make it the best cleaner for water damage. The best options are denatured alcohol (poisoned Vodka without a sin tax) or methyl alcohol. I would go back and do it again to displace the water and board junk properly. IPA works, but you can do better. Follow these instructions to clean the board. An ultrasonic cleaner and denatured alcohol displacement is the absolute best...
回答“Gnarbox 2.0 SSD upgrade”It says it uses NVMe SSDs, so in theory it should be possible. This will void the warranty if you have one that’s active and it may impact the water resistance of the drive. If you’re okay with risking the water resistance and loss of warranty, it may very well be possible to replace the drive(s) installed. Get a good one like the WD Black NVMe series and you’ll be okay. If you bought the 256GB one, it may not be as easy with the entry level version (256GB) based on the FCC teardown. The 256GB version uses a M.2 2230 drive, which may make it a bit difficult to get anything meaningful beyond drives like the WD SN NVMe series 512GB or Chinese reference designs. Hopefully the 512GB/1TB versions are more practical to upgrade like you want to do.
回答“Do you recommend silica gel packets or cat litter deodorizing crystals”Neither. Get 99% IPA and do it right. If you have access to an ultrasonic cleaner, that’s the best way to clean these boards. Follow these instructions to clean the board. The problem with desiccants is they don’t do anything but provide a false sense of security and trash repairable devices for no good reason. Do it right or you’ll end up with a dead laptop that’s beyond repair given enough time. The issue with laptops is the keyboards never seem to survive, so be prepared to buy a topcase just in case the keyboard is dead or even partially damaged. It's riveted in on the Air, so you need to buy a whole topcase or drill the rivets out 100% perfectly (it will never fit right again if you mess one up) and install screws. End users are better off getting the topcase and not taking the chance. Thankfully it’s only $150 to get it with the keyboard installed, but you don’t get a trackpad and that may also be trashed, but it’s also cheap at $90.
回答“compatible LCD Motorola XT1792?”Follow the G5S Plus guide to work on the phone as it comes apart the same way. The Plus is a spec bumped version of the old phone. In order to open the phone, refer to this guide to change the display. As far as if you can use the Plus part on the non-Plus phone I don't know but if you can find a non-Plus screen to avoid compatibility issues, that would be ideal but most screens will probably be for the Plus.
回答“How do I change the charging port on a moto g5”It is soldered to the board on the G5 Plus, but the G5 just needs a new lower board to fix it. We didn’t get the version you choose on the device page in the US, so you have a Plus if you didn’t import or bought it in a country it’s native to. Depending on how brave you are, it isn’t a job for a novice to attempt unless they are willing to risk the phone as a unit. If you can’t handle component level work, get a few quotes from repair shops on how much it’ll cost and compare it to a Moto G7 off and on sale that’s factory unlocked. For the non Plus, refer to this guide to change the board. For the Plus, it may total out the phone since you need a board or component level repair. In the US, the G7 usually goes for $300 unlocked, give or take any subsidies. I know Best Buy offers a $50 discount for in-store activation here, but it’s pretty much limited to a few people since most people showing up to buy an unlocked phone are upgrading or replacing a dead one locked by a carrier, for example. The non-Plus G5...
回答“What size belts does this use? (Sears 560.21674350)”(1) 65.2 mm (counter belt) (1.1) 0.7mm (2) 81.9 mm (motor) (2.1) 1.5mm Add these to your belt list @abrsvc. It doesn’t include a 3rd belt as it runs fine (and major disassembly is needed) but those are the major ones. I need to take the flywheel off to get it or major surgery.
回答“Cloudy dust like , spreading slowly inside my Pc Monitor”That’s usually due to layer delamination due to a panel defect, especially if it spreads over time. You can’t fix this without replacing the entire panel. Unless you’re extremely lucky and it’s internal moisture buildup rather then physical splitting, it’s not an easy fix. The problem is with most 1st party panel manufacturers, it’s typically cheaper to replace the monitor as a unit due to the cost of the actual panel itself. Unless you can find a cheap panel, you may be better off replacing the entire monitor. Look at the price of panels and see, but it’s usually a losing proposition. The exception is if it’s manufactured by Samsung - if it uses 1st party parts, game over. 3rd party panels may be economically priced - especially AUO Samsung monitors. Make sure you reset the panel hours as well if you find one that’s brand new. On Samsung, set the brightness and contrast to 0 and go to input and hold the knob in on the software input menu ones. On dedicated button monitors like the 245BW layout, do this...
回答“Where is the ink blotter”Pull the side panel off of the printer where the service station is, and you have access to the major one. However, major disassembly is required to do a full service (otherwise it’ll overflow). Unless you’re willing to remove the print mech to get both components out for service (and clean the one that runs across the paper path), scrap it and get another one. These things are designed to be disposable, especially cheapos like the MG series. Buy something that’s actually economical to run this time around if you get rid of it. A good rule for deciding if major work like this is worth it is if it costs you next to nothing new or comes free with a computer, it’s a money pit printer that gets totaled out with one set of ink - the MG series is one of them. They either came free with a computer when such a deal still happens or it was $20-50 at Walmart. I see these things at Goodwill and other thrift stores all the time due to the cost of ink, which is why I hate them as actual printers but take them for...
