Converting to Rechargeable Batteries

How would one go about converting the 3DS Amiibo reader into a rechargeable battery unit rather than one that uses replacement batteries?

@kytim899 you would need to fit a charge controller as well as a battery housing. It runs on what, 2 AA batteries. Then it is most likely a 3V 2600mAh device., That means you might get away with using a single 18650. You'd need a resistor setup to drop the voltage to 3V since the 18650 is 3.6V. For your charging controller you'd need something like this

By the time you have it designed, have all the parts you need and made sure it fits inside the Amiibo reader you might realize that purchasing rechargeable external batteries and charger, something like this, might just be a lot easier. Now, if you are wanting to give this a try, let us know. I am certain there are lots of good people on here that will help you all the way.

I was thinking about connecting a charging board to a rechargeable phone battery that is two AA batteries with 2.7V and then connect that charging board to the motherboard of the Amiibo reader.

Considering how expensive these readers are at the moment and the amount of work needed to convert it to rechargeable it might be better to just consider this an experiment.

@kytim899 absolutely. It would be a fun thing to do. Just a bit costly and only if fun if you have a spare unit to mess around with,
