Does anyone know a compatible hard drive for this?

I need a hard drive for this computer, and want to know what model specifically to buy. It did not come with one when I bought it at a garage sale.

Hi all, thank you for your quick replies! I'm not even sure where I would plug in a hard drive if I found one, but that is the least of my problems right now. The tower will no longer turn on after I removed the core and reinstalled it!! I'm not sure what I did wrong as it is totally seated properly, and the PC is still getting power, but the fan for the PSU won't even turn on now. Help!!

It most likely has a 3.5" hard drive bay, but I would go with a 2.5" SSD and an adapter rather than a rotational drive as it will about double your speed.

If this is for the LISTED device, these use IDE hard drives (which are more or less made of unobtainium unless you have a few on hand for machines like this, or get lucky). More than likely you will not be able to find a similar drive, but if you can find a PCI (not PCIe) SATA card and a supported drive in relation to the SATA type (I or II is the most common for those, modern drives tend to be Fixed III unless you find NOS of a III drive with II/I compatibility). Look for something like this (do not setup a RAID array): GODSHARK 4 Ports PCI SATA Raid Controller Internal Expansion Card

If this is the "Elite" 700 also sold as a Pavilion Elite on some sites, then any SATA hard drive will work, including an SSD. No need to get a fancy caddy, just plug it in and throw it in a drive bay or use removable double sided tape. SSDs can be thrown in with no risk as there are no moving parts. It just looks tacky. Unless you want to install a spinning drive, you can just use a hack solution.

@nick you sure? I just checked and it looks like a 3.5in SATA III interface HDD. @aaronellio86573 give us the complete model number for your computer so we can verify things for you.

@oldturkey03 Yeah, for all intents and purposes I'm referring to the selected device for now, but gave advice for the Haswell version. It might be the P4 version being from a yardsale, but Haswell is surplus equipment now so we can't rely on that :(. 8-10th gen is good surplus, 11-12th gen is premium secondary market hardware for Intel. Ask anyone scoring 11th gen boards and CPUs; we're making out well but paying for it; nobody is giving them away yet.

@aaronellio86573 your computer is a HP Pavilion 763n Desktop PC. You can get PSU's at plenty of places like this one and many more. The original was a 200W PSU with part number HP 0950-4107 Your computer uses a IDE drive. Those are still available. You can get them at places like this and many others. Looks at those prices and thanks myself for hoarding them while they were young and cheap. I only hoarded them because of budget issues at the time.

@nick I know right. Maybe some used drive from ebay etc. would be cheaper.

@oldturkey03 This is why we hoard. You end up with them before they get loaded with hours and issues.

This is why I hated destroying them when I can keep it. With SATA they're common enough it's not a issue outside of old equipment but that's it. I'd be inclined to try a SATA>IDE adapter at those prices.
