Will a 2016/2017 used battery work on my 2015 MacBook?

I bought my Macbook at mid-2015, so naturally It’s battery is almost dead and I got the “Service battery” warning already.

I found someone selling an original battery, still glued to the bottom case, but I don’t know the year of the Macbook where that battery came from. Is it important?

I don’t know if there are incompatibilities between batteries from different years.

I finally changed my battery and everything is working perfect so far.

The backplate was not a 2015, and the battery was model A1705.

The only problem I had was that my motherboard wouldn’t fit the new bottom case, so I had to cut a piece of the frame that holds the motherboard to make it fit.

MacBook batteries as far as I know are all intercompatible, 2015-2017.

iFixit lists a higher Wh for the 2016-2017. Will that fit the 2015?

Wondering the same as Paul. A1527 (2015 battery) has 7.55V and A1705 (2016 battery) has 7.56V. Doesn't seem like a big difference, but would it make an actual difference in the MacBooks life? Is it risky? (I want to use the A1527 in a 2016 laptop that came with a A1705).

You can also actually file off the front left corner of the 2015 logic board where it doesn't fit (with a fine tooth file, nothing crazy) because the 2015 for wtf reason used a smaller radius curve on that corner vs. the other, and the 2016-17 board has the same radius curve on both sides. There's nothing but silicon on that corner and I've made successful replacements of 2015 batteries using pulled bottom cases from 2016-17 this way. Just have to round off the very corner just a bit, and everything is otherwise exactly interchangeable. Also you'll end up with more battery life using the 2017 given that it has a higher mAh rating than did the 2015 battery.

I'll always recommend a pulled, tested OEM bottom case vs. a 3p battery because I've never been able to find a third party battery for the a1534 that isn't crap.
