Not having enough power

I got a 2001 gmc sierra 2500 with a 6.0 vortec and I feel like it isn't getting enough power and its sucking up too much gas...I think so but I really don't know, I have seen the needle on the gas meter run to E as I hit the accelerator....not outrageously fast but I could tell the needle went down more than it was supposed too... It has a somewhat new trans. But when I hit the accelerator it docent take off like it should and it build up rpm before it jumps into second gear but after that it shifts pretty good and when I gas it to to about 70 mph the abs and brake light comes on...

@big_man_dale you've got a whole lot going on here. My concern is this "about 70 mph the abs and brake light comes on" I'd suggest that you get your OBD scanned and see if it throws any codes.

Not really much of an answer, however most Sierra's and Silverados have an issue with the XMSN "popping" or slipping from 1st to 2nd gear. Last I checked there was not a recall for the XMSN's for that model year.

As far as the ABS lights, check to see if you can get the OBD scanned and reset the codes (any auto part store does that for free) and drive for a few days to see if it will come on.

The mileage could be due to your rear axel ratio. If you have a truck with a 4.10 ratio, it'll feel more sluggish that a normal gear ratio of 3.73. Copy you VIN down and have the local dealership run it for you. They should be able to get you a list of the standard options that the truck had from the factory. Otherwise, the prior owner may have put in a 4.10 axel for haul/towing/pulling.

Hope that helps!
