I have a problem with my mac book pro it seems that every time I shut it off the sound gets muted on it and the only way to get the sound to work is either push the f-12 button once or go to system pref and go to sound and uncheck the box where it says mute. This happens every time unit gets shut off Apple tech want me to bring in what do you think. I have tried to reinstall the os but still not luck

Press the F3 (with and without the fn key presses) to verify that mute is not enabled.
Look in your user start up items to see if something is doing this
Prees the F4 or F5 key to check the volume setting
check the output tab in Sound preferences to confirm that the software is correctly sensing that there are no external speakers or headphones connected. (you may need to throw the switch in the port) let us know if this is the case for directions
