As with all electronics, you may experience some issues over time due to software updates, drops, or just normal wear and tear over time. Sometimes fixes can be as simple as changing settings on your computer, but other problems, such as hardware issues may not be so easy to fix. Either way, we will try to make this process as simple as possible for all users.

Laptop Will Not Power On

The laptop is unresponsive and does not show any sign of power.

Bad Battery

Your Battery may not be supplying enough power for your laptop to power on.

Make sure your battery is charged. Otherwise, your battery may have a bad cell. Plug in your laptop to a power source and see if you can start it on auxiliary power, otherwise you may need a new battery or charger.

Software Glitch?

Sometimes there are software glitches that can be solved with a little techie touch.

Unplug the AC adapter and take out the battery. Push the power button 10 times in 1 sec intervals. Next, Push and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Replace the battery and push the power button, it should turn on!

Blank Screen at Startup

Your laptop powers on, but nothing comes up on the display screen.

Force Restart

Sometimes part of the software freezes up and needs a fresh start in order to free itself from problems

Force turn off the laptop with a long press of the power button until everything shuts off. Leave the laptop off for 30 mins to a few hours, then try starting again.

Wrong Display Mode

You may have accidentally pressed something or changed a setting. This can be fixed!

Hit your F11 key (display on and off) a few times to see if the screen comes back on. Or, at startup, hit F2 repeatedly to get the setup menu. If neither of these work, you will need to check your hardware.

Touch Screen Does Not Work

Your screen does not respond to your touch.

Identify Touchscreen Connection Status

'System updates can change driver settings to where the computer no longer recognizes the touch screen.

First check to see if the touchscreen is connected to the computer. By navigating from "Control Panel", to "All Control Panel Items", then to "System": under the Pen and Touch section, you can see if it is or is not connected.

Touchscreen Not Connected

If the Touchscreen is NOT being picked up, then a System Recovery must be performed to see if it is an issue with the operating system.

Limited Touchscreen Support

'Any type of impact or hardware malfunction can cause the settings to get out of whack.

If the computer has "Limited Touch Support", first try to Re-calibrate or Reset the touchscreen. Otherwise, try to reconfigure the touch screen.

Unnecessary Software Installed

Multiple hardware drivers through updates can conflict the software into not working properly.

If the touchscreen still is not working up to this point, then press the windows key + R. Type devmgmt.msc then press enter. Navigate to Human Interface Devices and uninstall HID-compliant device. Then reboot and try the touch screen again.

Broken Screen

If all of the above methods fail, then the screen can be replaced.

Laptop Shuts Down Unexpectedly

For no reason, your laptop just decides to turn off.

Improper Power Management

The first step is to run the automatic diagnostic and repair within the operating system. The steps listed to run the diagnostic are listed below.

Open the Windows search bar.

Type in troubleshooting and click on the icon that is located in the control panel.

Click on "Improve Power Usage"

Let the updater automatically detect and fix power issues.

Disable Sleep and Hibernation

Another potential issue is a very short sleep and hibernation timer. Below are the steps to disable these timers and prevent your computer from going to sleep.

Search for and locate the control panel.

Navigate to hardware and sound.

Navigate to power options.

Click on Edit Plan Settings.

Click on Advanced Power Settings.

Change "Sleep after" and "Hibernate after" to never.

Turn Hybrid sleep off.

Change "Turn off Display" to never.

Safe Mode Diagnosis Required

If the problem still persists, then the computer can be booted in safe mode. The following link contains a step by step guide for how to boot in safe mode. If the problem continues while in safe mode, then it must be brought in for repairs.

No Sound From Speakers

When no audio can be played through speakers.

Incorrect Settings or Out of Date Drivers

Check sound settings and make sure speakers are not disabled. Update the Realtek audio driver to latest version. Run tests through the Realtek HD Sound Manager. Run windows updates.

Defective Speaker

If none of the updates to settings seem to work, the speaker is faulty and can be replaced.

Cannot Connect to Wireless Internet

Your laptop will not connect to wifi. Have no fear, there are a few solutions you can try!

Incorrect Router Settings

In your router settings, change wireless security from 'aes+tkip' to 'aes only'. Also reset wireless adapter on the computer, not the router

App/Firewall is Causing the Problem

There could be an application of firewall that is interfering with the internet connection. To troubleshoot this we can start the windows in safe mode. This will start windows without any application installed. If in safe mode you are able to connect to the internet then it must be an app/firewall that is blocking the connection

Network Drivers Out of Date

Click 'Start' and type "Device Manager" in the search box. Click 'Device Manager', Locate 'Network Adapters' and expand the menu. Right-click on each / all network adapter one by one and select 'Uninstall'. Once all have been removed, right-click again and select 'Scan for hardware changes'.The adapters will be rediscovered and when the drivers are loaded back, the devices will re-appear in Network Connections.
