Troubleshooting
If you are having trouble with the YCCTEAM YCC-SW4001, see the Troubleshooting Page for common issues and solutions.
Background
The YCCTEAM YCC-SW4001 is a gaming controller manufactured by YCCTEAM, a company that develops gaming peripherals for Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. YCCTEAM ships devices to 12 countries across Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. Their website does not mention the YCC-SW4001, so most of the available information comes from the controller’s Amazon page. It was first released on Amazon in November 2019, and it is currently priced at $29.99. This product is intended mainly for individuals who are seeking an additional controller for the Nintendo Switch family of systems and would like a cheaper option than Nintendo’s official controllers.
Though the YCC-SW4001 can be used on a PC, it is primarily intended to be used for the Nintendo Switch gaming system; it is designed as a lower-priced alternative to the official Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, which it greatly resembles. Despite being about half its price, YCCTEAM’s controller contains many of the same premium features as Nintendo’s controller, including haptic feedback, gyroscope input, near-field communication, and the ability to wake the Nintendo Switch from sleep. The YCC-SW4001 can be connected wired (using the included USB cable) or wirelessly (using Bluetooth) to a Nintendo Switch, but it can only connect to a PC with a wired connection. The USB cable is also used to power the controller’s rechargeable battery.
Generally, consumers report that the YCC-SW4001 has no major issues, yet it is unfavorably compared to the Pro Controller, which is often stated to be more reliable. Commonly listed shortcomings include loud rumble, clicky buttons, and malfunctioning sticks. Unlike the Pro Controller, the YCC-SW4001 does not have HD Rumble; it only vibrates at a single, very strong intensity. The face buttons feel looser than the ones on the Pro Controller, so it is more difficult to press them down quickly. Over time, the control sticks can suffer from misalignment and drift, so in-game characters do not move in the intended directions.
Identification
The YCCTEAM YCC-SW4001 looks very similar to the official Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Both controllers have four face buttons (“A”, “B”, “X”, and “Y”) arranged in a diamond formation, a 4-way directional pad, two control sticks, and four auxiliary buttons (“+”, “-”, HOME, and Screenshot) on their fronts. Each controller also has four shoulder buttons (“L”, “R”, “ZL”, and “ZR”), a pairing button, a USB-C port, and a charging LED indicator on their tops; as well as four player LEDs on their bottoms, between the handles.
YCCTEAM’s controller features a unique leaf/vine pattern on its handles and its face, and the back of the controller contains a sticker that identifies its model number of YCC-SW4001. The casing of our model is completely opaque, but other models may be slightly translucent like the Pro Controller. It does not have any of the Nintendo or Nintendo Switch branding/logos found on the Pro Controller.
