The LG 25UM58-P is a 25" UltraWide LED Monitor designed by the LG Corporation.

Monitor doesn't work, burnt component

Hi, bought this monitor used, supposedly working but with no charger. Bought one and... nothing happened. I tore it down and found a burnt component that I wasn't able to identify (from lack of skill and a little too damage). Can anyone please help out? I bought it for about €20 alongside another monitor, so I'm not mad, but if I can try to fix it for a small price, I'm happy to try, and broken for broken...

P.S. First image is mine, a close up of the burnt component. Second one is from the teardown here on ifixit, to locate the component easier.

@alessandro11582 this is a MP2315GJ buck boost converter in a SOT23-8 package. Those are readily available at places like this and many others.

Hi, thanks a lot, I'll try to source it and I'll give it a shot. When I last checked everything else seemed ok, just that burn IC that was was shorting. I'm a little worried for a pad of that IC that doesn't look very good but I hope it's fine enough. By the chance, is there any reference about what motherboard can I use if I screw up (and possibly can manage to source it for cheap)? My understanding so far is that it should be the same as the 34" kind of same model but bigger, but I couldn't find out more. Also, not a technician, just a diyers messing around. Thanks in advance, really appreciate it!

@alessandro11582 best would be to replace it with a board that is identical and the right revision as well, since we do not know about what firmware is on the board. So, anything that is a 34UM58/LM55C with the LG part number EAX6681 8201 (1.1) Always use the part or board number when looking for replacements.

Thanks, understood. If I go down the motherboard route I'll definitely try to match the board down to the revision. I asked just to be aware, given how little I paid I wanted to understand what may be the tradeoffs if I can't find the exact part number (or if it is to expensive). Anyway, thanks again, you've been really helpful, I appreciate it

@alessandro11582 the component itself is pretty cheap. Repair should not be more then $20 including shipping etc. Here is an example from the supplier that I prefer and here is my least liked supplier as another example As for the main board etc. cost and availability will all depend on where you reside Like this oneor this one :)

Oh thanks a lot, I didn't expect to receive even the links. I'll check them out more carefully when I'm at my PC, but I'll definitely use them as reference. I don't remember the board revision, nor mine nor the one I saw jn the listing, but I've also seen one on AliExpress, around that same price. About the ic I was also thinking about sourcing from AliExpress, I'm not sure that's the best idea but at least for shipping to Italy other sites have "crazy" shipping fees, like about €20 for a €1,50 component. But I will check better and I will definitely see more in depth the link that you're sent me. Really, really thanks again, this help is very precious
