Within the charging logic is a set of MOSFETs which toggle the power between the three points, the power line, battery and the logic board.
So, here the logic from the battery to the logic board is not enabling, yet it’s possible power from the MagSafe is getting to the battery and clearly getting to the logic board circuitry. Let’s get a better view of things, install this gem of an App CoconutBattery, first letting the battery run down a bit so the charger will need to charge the battery, now with the charger plugged in the MagSafe LED should be Amber give it a moment so CoconutBattery is refreshed and take a snapshot of the Apps main window posting it here so we can see things.
So could you’ve damaged something taking the old battery out? Once we see the CoconutBattery snapshot we’ll know more.
As for the adhesive issue, these systems still used a terrible approach, I clean the plastic sheet of the adhesive and then apply a set of Command Adhesive strips from 3M (get the heavy duty refills or get a roll of the special tape) I use two well spaced strips per cell leaving the pulls exposed so the next time it’s not a battle. Do make sure the uppercase side is spotless and oil free.
I'm surprized that the new battery i bought is already 9 years old

@jos33241 - Do to COVID some battery makers salvaged microcontrollers from older batteries as the suppliers were unable produce the part.
Your issue is not the battery.
