Display Suddenly Gone Extremely Dim!

My laptop's hinge has been through a lot. The top right screw and rubber feet went missing, and the inside is exposed. I didn't fix it, even though I had a warranty. Now, the warranty is over (after 1 year), and I moved to another country. That's when the hinge started breaking, along with some plastic around it. I tried to fix it, but it got worse. When I closed the laptop, the display became very dark, and I had to use flashlights to see anything. Now, it's having trouble showing anything, and the trackpad stopped working. I tried updating drivers, restarting, and reconnecting cables, but nothing worked. I need help because I use the laptop every day, and it means a lot to me.

Hi @angelrangel

If there are no images to be seen on the laptop screen even when using a flashlight connect an external monitor (TV?) to the laptop's HDMI port and check if there's still a display from the laptop seen on it. Don't forget to press the F7 key to access the display output options.

If the external display is OK then hopefully it may only be a damaged video cable. The video (EDP) cable passes through the hinge to get from the motherboard to the screen.

Here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop that may help.

The EDP cable is first mentioned on p.48 in the removal procedure that eventually gets to removing the LCD panel.

If the EDP cable is damaged then usually the cable part number can be found printed somewhere on the cable itself. Once you find it, search online for the part number to find suppliers that suit you best.

If the cable isn't damaged or if it is and it has been replaced and there's still no display but there is a display seen when using the flashlight, check if fuse FG3301 is OK and not blown. If blown search online for ERBRD3R00X (supplier example only) to find suppliers that suit you best. You can check if it is blown by testing for voltage on pins 1& 2 of the motherboard's EDP cable socket.
