Watch not functioning after swimming

My watch haywire after swimming. Then there's like green screen on display, and the watch totally off. I can't restart it and all button not function. I can see some droplets at the sensor glass. Any idea what's the problem?

Hi @syahril

The impurities in the water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the watch's operating design and could damage the components. The corrosion starts immediately and is ongoing until it is completely cleaned away

First do not try to charge or to turn on your watch and then remove the battery as soon as possible from the watch to minimize any further damage.

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the watch and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available at electronics parts stores) to remove all traces of corrosion and water. If possible do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is only 70% IPA or less, can contain additives and is not as effective. If you do have to use it check the label to verify the amount of IPA. The higher the percentage of IPA the better

Here is a link that describes the process. Electronics Water Damage

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted pcb be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board. The ends of any flex cables and their connectors need to be cleaned as well

Hopefully after you have done all this the watch might possibly work correctly again.

If your watch is a Galaxy Watch and not a different Galaxy watch e.g. Watch Active, Watch 2, Watch 3 etc, here's the ifixit Samsung Galaxy Watch that may help

If this process seems too daunting, take your watch to a reputable, professional phone or electronics repair service, experienced in liquid damage repair and ask for a quote for a repair. If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later.

Hi Jayeff. Thanks for feedback. I'll try clean it first. Btw, is there any probability damage to battery /motherboard / display which I'd to order it as spare first?

May be best to clean it first and then check if it works or not, you may be lucky.

Batteries don't swim very well so perhaps it may need replacing

I opened it, clean it up. Then, try to charge it. Can see the watch is charging and screen show rebooting display then screen dead. I can see the motherboard is rusty already.

Try cleaning it a few more times. Allow it to fully dry between each clean and then allow a bit more time between each clean after it is dry to see if the corrosion starts up again. Sometimes it is very persistent.

Do not connect the battery after each clean as this may cause more damage if the corrosion is still there but not yet visible.

You've got it charging and booting which is better than before so you may have to be a bit patient when repairing it and not rush it.
