L580 only charging at certain angles

So I got a Lenovo ThinkPad l580 a month ago and the USB C port has slowly become worse and worse to use until now it only charges at a certain angle and if you push in.

My question is would be how much it would cost to repair by a technician in the UK (I have done soldering work but not on SMD level). If it's too expensive I may try to do it myself and buy some of my own tools as I guess it's a useful skill. Here in the UK the laptop is worth around 150 so I doubt it would be cost effective to repair a usb port by a shop.

My concern is that is it just the USB port. The centre plastic piece is a bit looser than other ports but the pins look fine. However, the metal crease (that you see in cheaper usb C cables) has actually broken apart in the port.

Lastly, is the laptop meant to charge from both usb C ports? The other one works fine and provides fast charging for my phone but it won't charge the laptop. This made me wonder if the charge chip was broken as my brother's Lenovo L380 charged with both usb C ports.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I will practice my soldering on some old micro usb connectors and I know I need to order a hot air station to repair this connector.

@galacticskies yes to the charging port issue. For the repair lets see if either @hellomacos @strongbow or @tech_ni can provide you with any options.

I was thinking maybe somebody local to me in greater London. I don't usually go and get my stuff repaired at shops and do it myself.

I could return the laptop but I don't want it turned into ewaste so I want to try fixing it myself portentially.

@galacticskies usbc ports are weak and can cause the traces and pads to rip which then requires micro jumpers. in some cases most laptops with usbc charging has some type of cd32 chips which can get damaged

@daniel what are the chances the chip itself is broken if the laptop still charges when you push on it. There are no signs of bent pins or anything and I tore the laptop apart and found that the black plastic on the metal exterior of the port moves around when the charger is connected. It seems that it's just loose inside so I believe the usb port is simply broken.

I've watched a few videos on usb C repair and I am aware that the pads can fall off when taken off. It seems stupid that they could make a universal standard that carries so much current as well as data lines. I don't see anything wrong with a larger connector and this would give greater opportunity for more power to run through.

Anyway, I do not have the tools as of right now to carry out the repair. No fine tip hot air station, no resin flux. I am starting to think that the best course of action would be to return it sadly.
