How do I replace my GPS hard drive?

Hi everyone,

I have a Magellan RoadMate 5236T-LM. I need to remove the hard drive so that I can fix some corrupted files and get the GPS running again. I’ve already removed the motherboard, but can’t figure out how to remove the hard drive. It doesn’t seem to be a standard computer hard drive. Does anyone happen to know how to remove the hard drive on this GPS?

Here are some pictures of my motherboard:

Thank you all very much in advance.

I don’t think it is removable.

If the hardrive is soldered into the motherboard(you recognize it) then search for the model number at google.com. You will find a chip with more capacity online quickly and might solde(or micro-solder) it. (First ask the compatibility with your GPS)

If the hardrive is soldered into the motherboard(you don’t recognize it) then search for an higher-capacity same model at google.com and try to transfer parts (First ask the compatibility with your GPS)

If it is connected by a ribbon(you recognize it), search for the numbers on it with and without “ribbon” word respectively at goole.com. You will find a chip with more capacity online quickly and the ribbon and might connect it. (First ask the compatibility with your GPS)

If it is connected by a ribbon(you don’t recognize it), then search for an higher-capacity same model at google.com and try to transfer parts (First ask the compatibility with your GPS)

If the hardware contain no number: yikes, I can’t advice.

Your best bet/last resort will be to go here, look for/open evry guide, look who is the creator(if there is and other 2 contributers thing, click it), open every comtributer and look for the “@name” right below there name in their personal user page, and make a new question here and add their “@names”

If this helps please accept it.

Thanks for your help! I'm pretty sure it's removable; when someone's hard drive gets damaged or corrupted the GPS technicians can replace it. I don't see any hardware numbers on the hard drive, which as far as I can tell, is soldered to the motherboard. I'm still not quite sure how to take it off, though.

@anfxt post some pictures of your motherboard. I do not think your GPS has a HDD. You maybe looking at the EM shield which should be shielding the memory IC’s. Let’s see what you are looking at 在已经存在的问题里加入图片

@oldturkey03 I've uploaded pictures of my motherboard. I'm pretty sure it does have a hard drive. It seems to have both a hard drive (which I think is the silver box with foam on top), and a memory chip (which I don't need to remove). Also, when I opened windows explorer on the GPS, it showed the device as having internal storage and a HDD.
