Splicing a new USB-C cable on HomePod Mini

Does anyone have the pinout color code for the attached USB-C cable? Within an hour of unboxing my HomePod Mini, my parent’s dog chewed the connector off the cable. As the official repair cost to repair is nearly the cost of a new device, I’m going to attempt to splice a new cable onto it. Anyone who has done a teardown or just taken it apart, would you be able to help me out?

The official Apple cost for repairing the cable is only 29$.

@tassilomoedl 29$ (Groceries for a day) saved if you do it yourself.

@oldturkey03 Yes, but the OP said it costs almost as much as a new HomePod, and that‘s not correct.

@tassilomoedl you are right, it is not. However, repairing the cable still saves the $29 you mentioned :-)

Hi @alexdavila ,

USB-C, as with all USB types, are wired to a standard, so the wiring will be the same for each type of USB connection.

The difficulty with USB-C, as opposed to USB 2.0 say, is that there are more wires and that there are wires having the same colours but they are used for different functions and accidentally connecting them incorrectly would cause problems.

You would need to identify the wires at one end of the cable and ensure that the wires were correctly terminated at the other end.

Here’s an image showing the pinout for a USB-C socket and plug which may help.
