I think I cut a cable during disassembly...the display cable?

The phone reacts "normally" when I plug in the charger (a tone), but totally dark display...no screen, no 4 little white symbols, no colored LCD to show charge status. I see a teardown of the second gen phone, but apparently not my model (SPH-D700).

In the title you say you think you cut a display cable. Did you or didnt you? Can you describe the cable you cut or do you have any pictures? Have you tried shining a light into the screen when it is on? It's possible just the back light isn't working.

is this a samsung galaxy s (sprint)??

Yes, I cut the cable. I believe it's the display cable. I now have pictures.

Post em up! We'll see if we can confirm it's the screen...if it is you unfortunately may need a whole new screen...but let's see first.

I thought I did post the pictures... I spent 45 minutes uploading to this website. Where are they?

Yup, looks like you will need a new one. It looks like the cable is an integrated part of the screen and not replaceable by itself. I would think its time to start shopping. Looks like your phone is an Epic 4G and the display is available at places like this or this one Expensive little buggers, aren't they? Here is a teardown video for your model. Hope it'll work out for you, good luck

An alternative would be to buy the conductive ink pen and try to draw a connection if you can patch the back. Or scratch back some trace on either side of the tear and solder a jump wire?

Just a followup question, please, as I have the same problem. Does your comment "Yup, looks like you will need a new one. It looks like the cable is an integrated part of the screen and not replaceable by itself" mean that replacing the screen in fact also automatically takes care of the broken cable?

I ask because I don't want to spend the money having the screen replaced only to find out that the cable is a seperate issue--as I can only find local and distant repairs for screen only-- and that I have to then go ahead and buy a new phone. Thanks!

Deb Teale, we don't do follow up questions well on 2 1/2 year old questions:-). You are asking if the cable is part of the display? You are having the same issues?

Take a look at this video It does show how to replace the display, at 3:30 you can see how it is connected and what is included with a new one.
