HP ColourLaserI( M452dn) Power Unit Replacement

I mistakenly used a 220 volt system for my HP M542dn which is only 110 volt compliant. On HP's advice, I bought a step down transformer and plugged in the printer which shows the power is working but also shows an error 85,04. The message indicated the printer thinks it has experienced a power outage and continues to show the error and will not execute a print command. HP are not interested in fixing it. I only used the printer about three times before repatriating to Ireland and it was over $400 Canadian dollars when I purchased it. Can anyone help me to fix it? I would be very grateful for any help you can offer.

Have you tried to reset the printer?

  • From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Setup button / .
  • Open the Service menu.
  • Select the Restore Defaults option, and then touch the OK button.
  • The printer automatically restarts.

If that does not work I would say it needs to be serviced professionally.

Hi,

I don’t know the answer but perhaps the printer’s power supply board outputs should be checked first to make sure that they’re all there and that they are OK as usually the power supply board is the first thing affected by accidental over voltage connections.

Also the board should be inspected for any obvious damage etc.

The board has two low voltage outputs, a 3.3V DC and a 24V DC output. Perhaps one of these may be faulty.

Also the error code of 85.04 is unusual as it does not appear in the troubleshooting manual (this is a direct download link). There are no 85.xx codes, the highest code is 79.xx

Also here’s a link to the repair manual for the printer which may help if you want to access the boards to do any testing etc.
