Where is the Microphone connector on logic board

Question

iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display (Mid 2017)

Model A1419 / EMC 3070 / Mid 2017 / 3.4, 3.5 or 3.8 GHz Core i5 or 4.2 GHz Core i7 Kaby Lake Processor (ID iMac18,3) / Retina 5K display. Refer to the older iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display (Late 2014 & 2015) guides as the system is very similar.

Where is the Microphone connector on logic board

The teardown for the Retina 5K 2015 onwards iMacs is almost exactly the same for eh mid-2017 5k models but the one part missing is the microphone connection. My iMac has dual microphone at the bottom of the enclosure with a thin flexible cable. However this was hidden under the logic board so I can’t see where too reconnect it to the logic board on reassembly?

Any ideas?

While the teardown are useful in learning about the basic construction there are not designed as a detailed guide to service a system. Often times I need to look at related guides to get to connections, if we look at the 2015 iMac iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display Logic Board Replacement guide jumping to Step49 the iSight and microphone cable connects to the logic board and Step50 we can also see where the headphone jack cable connects.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the reply. This is the steps that differ on the mid-2017 iMac as the isight camera connection is just for the camera and does not have a microphone cable. The internal microphone has been moved to the bottom of the screen where the two screen tapes sit.

@petrosgarly - Sadly, the iFixit teardown team didn't create a teardown or guides for the newer 2017 or 2019 models.

I'm sorry we have someone who is just being a jerk here. He's on a bombing mission going through every answer I have and negativity voting on it.

@danj your case has been taken to Meta and I am sure that TPTB will correct this on the very first business day. I think the last time I've seen that was quite a few years ago. If I remember right it was somebody that had a bit of hate for mayer. You do have to admit it is a bit ironic how people react to some unwanted help and how they feel picked on when language skills are questioned. Some of his answers are actually pretty good. :-)

Double check your stats. They seem to change from what your image shows.

Now isn’t that nice? Can’t we just all get along or at least stay out of each other way instead of bickering and fingerpointing and trying to be one up on everybody? I think that things are moving along just nicely. With all the S*** that is going on in this world a urinating contest over who is right and who is wrong seems to be very immature.

@edigitcom - No I have not! I've tried to help guide you to improve your skills and answers.

I think you need to go back and re-read what I've written this time take the chip off your shoulder and look at it with fresh eyes.

This is not a social site this is a skills site. People are looking for knowledge on how to fix their system. When you answer you need to know and you need to write it so it's understandable.
