Why is the tv clicking repeatedly when plugged in and unresponsive?

Panasonic TC-P65VT50 Plasma clicks repeatedly when plugged in and is unresponsive. Unplugging for extended period of time, plugging back in does not have an impact. Attempting to hold the power button down to reset seems to interrupt the clicking, but then just starts in again. Sounds like when turning the TV on and off but it cycles very quickly and repeatedly.

Edit: added photo I took while I had the back off. I am adding this from my phone so I am not sure if you can zoom in enough to see the boards.

Edit 2:

Adding close ups of all of the boards to include new Power and Sub Power supply boards.

I had more time to look at the tv this morning. When plugged in it cycles with 3 quick clicks, followed by about a 1 second pause, then one click followed by a one second pause then repeats. If I hold the power button down, the clicks stop, but start back up when released. Tv will not turn on by remote or power button. There are no lights flashing.

Any assistance this forum could provide in troubleshooting this is greatly appreciated!

@ldrinka

the clicking you hear is most likely based on the relays on the power board. You need to remove the back from your TV and take a look at the boards. Post some pictures of those boards with your question, that way we can see what you see. For as long as you do not decide to touch things while trying to turn the TV on etc., you are safe to work on it. Right now, going by your description and because there is no blink code, it does sound like a failed power board.

Update (10/07/2018)

It is possible that this is a Sub P board issue. You would need to measure the voltages on both the power boards and the fuses. I attached a legend to your image so that we can all talk about the boards knowing which once they are. Again, since your TV does not even create a blink code error, my first suspect is the power board(s) P and subP

I wish I had taken individual pics of each of the boards while I had the TV opened up. If you need better pics I can open it back up.

I did check for any disfigured capacitors (bulging, leaking, x on top popping open) and didn't see any of that. I also looked for any kind of blackened areas that might be indicative of some kind of surge or short but didn't see anything like that. I did hear the clicking coming from the sub power board.

@ldrinka this may work. I'll try and see if I have teh scjematics for the board. The clicking etc. is most liukely the power board. If there are issues starting up the board has a protect circuit that will prevent it from coming on. Eventually you may have to take it apart to take a further look at it.

I replaced the sub p and p boards. Tv stopped clicking, but now I get a 24 blink code and I can't seem to find anything on a 24 blink code.

Once I put the back panel back on, I no longer have the 24 light blink code, but now the tv is back to click cycling, this time it is a steady one second click interval for 6 or 7 clicks. It does stop but tv will not turn on after it stops and there is no light blinking. Holding the power button down just starts the cycle over. What in the world is wrong with this thing?!

@Idrinka Were you ever able to resolve your issue? I have a TC--P65ZT60 that is doing the exact same thing. 3 clicks followed by 1 click and repeat to infinity unless unplugged. I am about to order both power boards but was hoping to know if you finally got yours working.

This sounds most likely to be a power converter failure often this is the unit generating heat and clicking in the area where the power cord enters the back of the unit. This would be something that is best left to a pro because capacitors that are inside of these units can store a sufficient charge (for days, weeks, or longer) to cause permanent injury if you should unwittingly make contact with the wrong component or contact particularly if one has been shorted or otherwise damaged.

@wizbang_fl it is a perfectly good question. Just because you think it is unsafe does not mean it is a bad question. It would be nice if you would explain to the OP how to properly discharge capacitors etc. to make it safe. This is iFixit and not I-send-it-to-the-pro
