One of my usb ports Stopped working

So here is the issue, one of my ports stopped working completely and it wont recognize any device and won’t show anything on the screen saying usb device not recognized,it’s like plugging nothing into the usb port, what i believe cause the problem is when i tried to check on one my PS4 controllers that wouldn’t charge anymore and so i tried using multiple usb cables that were plugged into that one specific usb port,so whenever i plug my controller into the usb port it message pops up saying that usb device not recognized and then i switch to a different cable and it’s the same message and i keep trying till the message won’t show anymore on my screen like the usb port has no power but it actually has power cause i can feel it,after that i tried plugging different devices that work just fine on my other usb ports and none of the worked and yes i tried a couple of solutions like uninstalling my usb hubs and updating them and none of these worked for me so i’m just wondering if there is anything i can still do and it is just my usb port that is dead.

Hi @saifprogaming ,

What is the make and model number of your desktop PC?

Have you verified that the USB port is actually not supplying power, by inserting into it a USB device that gives an indication of power being supplied to it, e.g. a mobile phone that shows it's charging or even a mouse where the laser light is showing? You have to be very sensitive to "feel" +5V DC voltage. It's better to actually prove that it is there or not

Is it a USB port that is mounted directly onto the motherboard at the back of the case or does it appear at the front of the case on a panel?

Use a strong light and a magnifying glass to visually inspect the USB port enclosure, to ensure that all the pins are there and that they're all straight and parallel with each other.

So yeah of course i did mention that i tried plugging other devices into the port,my mouse wouldn't even light it when plugged into the port and yes my phone wouldn't charge when i tried that port when it use to work just fine before all this happened, and yes it's one of the front ports and not the ones in the back.

So i also tried inspecting the usb port like you told me and it looked fine except for it being a bit dusty which i don't think that it has to do with the port not working cause that's how it has always been like.

Hi @saifprogaming ,

Check if the cable which connects the USB port from the front panel is still connected securely to the motherboard.

If it appears to be OK check that the setting that allows the computer to control power to the USB ports has been unchecked.

If you have Win 10 installed, right click on the Windows Start button (left side of Taskbar) and then in the options that appear select Device Manager > scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers, click on + sign to expand the list > right click on a USB Root Hub entry (as I don’t know which one is for the particular USB port you’ll have to check all of the USB Root Hub entries in the list) > select Properties > Power Management and check if the option which says “Allow the computer to turn off this device “ is unchecked and then click OK. Then restart the computer and see if it now works OK.

Here’s an image that shows what I mean.

If you have done all this and it still doesn’t work then perhaps there is a problem on the motherboard with the power supply feeding that particular USB port.

Well I know your problem has been solved but for others that this didn't work, what worked for me was going to right clicking on the windows button (usually at bottom left) and going to device manager. Then scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers, click the arrow to the left of it and go to Generic USB hub. If there is a caution sign by it you we're most likely in my situation. To fix this right click the device and click Disable Device. After that re-enable it. This hopefully should fix it.
