Why does my computer run so slowly?
Other computers in the house arent ao extremely slow.

Looking at the specs, it is 100% your RAM. Spend some money and make sure it supports your laptop and upgrade to 8GB's of RAM. Your max supported is 8 and it comes with 2GB. With that RAM amount, if you ever trying to open more than 1 thing then it will slow down dramatically, even multiple tabs on a browser. Not enough to multitask. The CPU is fine.
Upgrade that to 8GB and I assure you it will many times faster and smooth sailing. :)

What OS is installed in the laptop?
What have you checked so far to see why it is slow?

@jayeff Have a look at this: https://www.cnet.com/products/hp-compaq-... If these are the specs of his laptop then no wonder why it's slow :))

Agreed specs aren't the greatest but then again there is slow and there is sloooow.
There could be other things affecting the performance. As you know the list goes on and on.
