Try adjusting the height of the handlebars by loosing the screw in step #5 of this PDF and lifting slightly till it turns freely then tighten it back down:

Kristina Johnson, This may also help, take the column back apart and apply a little/ thin coating of Vaseline on column and reassemble. Good luck.

Item is a piece of junk.
Agree, the Big Wheel has been unused for over a year. Every few months my kids and their friends get on it and just as quickly get off. I would greatly appreciate someone sharing a fix if there is one out there
To any parents who bought this for their kids for Christmas and are running into this problem - the solution is candle wax!
Simply apply a thin layer of wax to any surface that rubs in the steering assembly (underside of the handlebars, front fork spindle, inside the hole the spindle goes through, etc.).
I was a little skeptical given the apparently unsuccessful petroleum jelly suggestion, but gave it a shot anyway, as I've used candle wax to lubricate wood in the past.
Not sure how long the effects will last, but it works great so far!
