keeps stopping with error code EC
Does this have to go back to the manufacturer? Used in basement where ave humididity is 52%. it is usually set on 55%.
who fixes these things?
The Keystone KSTAD70A 70-pint Dehumidifier removes up to 70 pints of humidity from the air per day.
I have 3 of these units. One of them had this same problem. I called the 800 number and they replaced it for free. It was about 2 years old. Now another unit has the same issue. I guess I will have to call again. These units cannot be repaired but they have a 5 year warranty on the compressor, You call up, tell them the problem, then you get a letter in the mail stating they will refund your pruchase price. You send them the serial number sticker and the original receipt and they send you a check for whatever you paid and then you go out and buy another one.
Mine starting acting up this year. I was purchased in June 2014 and run that summer. Put away and re-ran the summer of 2015--June through Sept. Ran it from May to mid July in 2016. Now I plug it in for the first time in 2017 and it ran it for the day then the EC displayed. Checked the water bucket...........BONE DRY.
The Fan was running, but clearly the condenser wasn't or it lost it's Freon charge. Tried it again today..........ran for 2 hours.........got the EC message and still the bucket was bone dry. You cant dis-assemble the thing because they have 2 Philips head screws way down the upper sides and unless you have a 12"+ screwdriver........you'll never get the screws out.
I think it's poor when a $200+ product doesn't last but for maybe 10 total months of use before it quite. But "made in china" tells you something.
I have had the same problem with two of these mande late 2016/early 2017. The "EC" is error code and is generated when the compressor overheats. The compressor is not pumping the refrigerant through the system and will eventually overheat and stop with the EC code. Unplugging/replugging will restart the unit but it will again overheat and stop with EC code. Nothing to do with the circuit board - it is doing its job. Call the toll free number on the silver label and they will refund your money (less shipping and tax). There is no "fix" for this - defective China made trash.
Call Frigidaire customer service. They will refund you to purchase amount. Apparently only a few of these items are bad with error code "EC." The high ratings on this item speaks for itself. The item is warranted for 5 years (limited). Ive searched for "the best" 70 pint dehumidifier as most of you have. I realize my unit was a lemon... and I paid dearly for it. [I bought an LG 70 pint from HD and it leaked for seven days! after cleaning it up, (HD Mgr provided a free rental water vacuum) I saw the 800 number on the back of my unit... I'm so stupid! I so had a "d'oh" moment... I assumed the warranty was only good for 1 yr and it'd be such a hassle... Turns out, my unit had 5 yr limited warranty. Yes, my unit caused me grief... but the company came shining through! (BTW, I bought the exact same unit today).
I have the 70B model, which looks very similar and I have it in the basement. I get the same error. Unplug/plug to reset and it runs a while. The manual says " Unit malfunction-- Please make sure whether the environment temperature is suitable for the stated temperature in the manual or not.If not, please operate the unit under the stated temperature. If the environment temperature is suitable for the stated temperature, please call service."
My KSTAD50B dehumidifer does the same. It will run for about 90 minutes and then decide that the basement is too cold and then throw the EC error. Yes, I can unplug it, plug it back in, and hit the power switch to turn it on again, but I purchased this dehumidifier to run in my basement without so much manual intervention. I have taken it out of Continuous mode, and I'll see how it performs now. I'm not hopeful.
My KSTAD70B gives us the error code toooo. We were told the same thing as the first person...
I told them there must be a problem with this because every house has moist.... we have never emptied any water from this machine... nobody wants to own up to this product...
My unit was purchased in mid-2016 and worked well for the 18 months or so. this spring i found the EC code figured it was because the air was dry but it persisted. As recommended by others I called customer support had to provide them with the model and serial number as well as the store information. Although the unit is just past the second year of warranty they indicated they would have a replacement offer. Am waiting for someone from back office to call me.
I just called Frigdare with the problem of ‘EC ‘.
They are sending me a replacement as it is still under 5 year warranty. They said it was some sort of electrical problems but can’t be fixed.
I need to send in the upc sticker & cut-off power cord in order to receive the replacement which will be shipped via UPS.
Been on hold now with Frigidaire for 28 minutes.
(“your call will be answered shortly”…ya, right)
Same issue, error code EC after it runs for a while.
This unit is connected to a hose, so it never fills the container with water.
When I bought it at Menards, they said it was warranted for 5 years. I guess we will see…eventually…if anyone ever answers the phone. I guess they figure you will eventually give up and hang-up, so they won’t have to repair/replace it.
