MacBook Pro Restarts randomly

My MacBook pro just restart randomly. I did some research about kernal panics but I did everything even reinstalling the os. I'm not sure if the problem would be a bad board or memory causing it to restart. I check the hard drive. No problem there. I tried doing the starting up with the D key but that doesn't work at all unless I press option and the Internet check does not work fory year computer. Any help appreciated

Help us help you. The more complete the description of your problem is (some history - when did this problem first begin? Was the machine dropped or wet, a new OS or updated installed, added a new peripheral?, what OS you're using -there's a lot of those, a full compete description, the text or screen shot of any error messages) the more assistance we can provide, and, the sooner we can provide it..

MacBook pro

2.4 ghz Intel core i5

8 fb 1067 MHz ddr3

2 hard drive

Main drive partition to with os

Currently running Yosemite but was running Mavericks and updated to try fix problem

Everytime it restarts messages comes up about there was a problem. The th kernal panic shows some message info I don't understand.

The problem started happening a few months ago. I had no previous problems. There was no new peripherals added. I disconnected everything and I also redid the os. Sometimes it would just restart as soon as I open it or it would last for hours then restart. I also upgraded the memory myself but that was also years ago.

Could be a problem with the power switch. To check it out, remove the bottom panel, disconnect the battery (always disconnect battery when working inside the machine), disconnect the keyboard cable, find the two power pads, short them with a small flat screwdriver (charger connected), fan should start rolling and you'll hear the startup chime. If the machine function normally without restarting then the keyboard (power switch) is faulty and has to be replaced.

What will the actual fix be? Can you remove the power button and use this terminals instead as a temporary fix to use the computer?

完成的

Since the power button is part of the keyboard you need to replace the keyboard or the bottom case with a functional keyboard.

Hi Topaz,

Can you try to switch manually the graphic card used to INTEL HD Graphics (via gfxCardStatus) and tell us if random reboots still occurs ?

I have found two broken-solder pads from bottom RAM slot that makes random crashes and restarts. I have these problem many time and I run with only with top slot.

It was very hard to make a good solder joint with them but, when I get it, machine is rock solid using both RAM slots.

Check it touching different slot zones getting some pressure and see if machine crashes to see if it is a problem with RAM solts.

Good luck guys.

i have not yet found broken solder joints BUT when i tap the computer too forcefully right over one of the memory slots it restarts...

...and although i have 2 memory sticks installed, SystemProfiler only sees one.

thanks for the tip, @Carles+Arasil.
