Why won't my kenmore washer lid switch engage?

My Kenmore washer lid switch clicks off and on repeatedly, but will not begin wash cycle unless numerous attempts are made. I have to continually push the lid lock off and on before my machine will begin washing.

Rebecca Sturm, it is possible that this is caused by a bad contact on the inside of the switch, or by an improper linkage. Use this guide to check on your switch or to change it for a new one.
