My hard drive shows 8gb...what to do?

These Netbooks sometimes come with A SSD/Pen Drive HD if you will and the capacity is very small. I had the same issue with Windows 7 on a HP netbook. I eventually had to replace the SSD with a regular HD in oder to have more space on the drive. Also, these netbooks sometimes only have 1GB of RAM which will cause issues with Windows installation. Please note that the Atom Processor is these units are limited as far as performance. Even with a HD @ 7200RPM, and upgrade to 2GB of RAM, your machine's performance will be laggy at best. Stick with Windows 7 or lower even with upgrades to HD and RAM.
