Why won't my iPhone connect to iTunes or my laptop?

DeanD, sounds like you have a lot going on with your iPod. The very first thing I would do, is to try a different cable and a different computer. Check the dock connector for any debris, corrosion, broken or bend pins. If that does not work, change the battery. replace the battery. Here is the guide for it. The battery is available right here. After that re-evaluate. If your display still shows no sign of life, check the ribbon connectors for any damage as well as corrosion. Clean the board with isopropyl alcohol, just to rule out any water damage. Use this guide to work on that. Once it is cleaned and you have a new battery, and still no screen, replace the LCD.
