Coby DVD-R1100 Troubleshooting

A list of common Coby DVD-R1100 problems and how to fix them.

Device Not Powering On

“A green light should appear when pressing the power button.”

Check The Power Cable

The power cable should be plugged into the DVD player and also into a working power outlet. To make sure the outlet is working properly, plug in any other device to see if it powers on.

Reset The DVD Player

Unplug the DVD and wait 30 seconds and then plug in the power cord again and try hitting the eject button immediately by holding it in for 5 seconds.

Keys Are Stuck

If the power button key is stuck, try powering the DVD player using the remote control. If this solution works, then the power button key needs to be replaced.

Bad Plug

If the DVD player is plugged in and will not turn on, it could be due to a blown fuse. The power plug may need to be replaced.

DVD Player Not Able To Read The Disc

“When the DVD player is not able to read an inserted readable disk.”

Bad Disk

Check the disc being used for scratches and dirt. If the disc is damaged it won't play properly. Try using a different disc.

Disk Compatibility

Make sure the discs being used fit the correct format specified by the DVD player. The only types of discs that are able to play in this device are DVD (Digital Video Disc), CD-DA (Compact Disc - Digital Audio), CD-MP3 (Motion Picture Expert Group Audio Layer 3), and CD-R/CD-RW (Compact Disc - Readable/ Compact Disc - Readable and Writable).

Dirty Laser Lens

A dirty lens is most likely the cause for the DVD not being able to read the disk. Clean the lens while the DVD player is open. The lens should be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab.

Broken Laser Lens

If any of the solutions listed do not work, then the laser that scans the disk may be broken. If this is the case then the laser will need to be replaced.

Buttons Not Responding

“The DVD player is locked and the buttons aren’t working”

Reset The DVD

Unplug the DVD and wait 30 seconds and then plug in the power cord again and try hitting the eject button immediately by holding it in for 5 seconds.

Button Combinations

Simultaneously press the power, stop, and eject buttons.

Circuit Board Is Broken

If the DVD player is not responding to the buttons, then there may be an issue with the button circuit board needing to be replaced.

Disk Tray Will Not Open/Close

“When you can’t open or close the DVD player’s tray by pressing the open button.”

DVD Player Is Off

Check to see if the DVD player is powered on.

Stuck Keys

If the open button on the device is stuck, you may have a broken button. Try using the remote control to open the tray by pressing the “Open” button.

Obstruction Blocking The Tray

When opening the tray, the DVD player makes a noise and tries to open the tray. If the tray is not opening then an obstacle could be blocking the tray from opening. Check to make sure there is nothing in the way of the DVD player.

The DVD Drive Is Broken

If no other solution opens the disc tray, then there may be a problem with the eject door. The plastic piece or inner portions may be broken and in need of replacement.

Sound Can Not Be Heard

“The DVD is playing the disk, but no sound can be heard”

Check Audio Cables

Check to see if the audio cables are plugged into the DVD player and also the television. The cables are colored and must be plugged into the matching color ports.

Check Speakers

Make sure your speakers are functioning properly. This can be done by playing your television normally.

Audio Port Damaged

If any of the other solution had no effect on the sound then it is possible that the audio output port may be damaged. This can be fixed by replacing the motherboard.

the spinning, center thing makes a ton of noise, and causes the disc to pause, skip. I gingerly added WD40 and it didn’t help. It sounds like maybe the belt that drives the center/spinny thing is making the noise.

HELP!
