The problem with refurbished screens it's a fancy name for "used".
Foreign companies disassemble old cell phones and sell the parts on places like Amazon and eBay.
Ifixit provides brand new parts.
And if you think $200 for a screen is expensive walk into any cell phone repair and hand them your phone and ask them to put a new screen in for you it's going to be a lot more than $200.
And if it's not a lot more than $200 they're buying refurbished screens.
You have to preheat the entire edge of the phone before attempting any screen removal.
It softens the original adhesive to make screen removal easier.
Ifixit provides excellent microwavable bladders. You heat up the bladders in the microwave and rest them on the phone for a few minutes before attempting screen removal.
It's a good idea when repairing anything electrical to
number 1 make sure it's off
number 2 make sure it's disconnected from power
In the case of the pixel 2 XL
turn it off,
Disconnect the old screen
Then unplug the battery
Then continue on with the screen replacement in the reverse order
There's only one place to put the adhesive.
Where the screen connects to the frame around the edge, you don't have to do the entire edge but get as much adhesive in places like the corners.
This is the 4th time I've had to change the screen on my Google pixel 2 XL
Even light drops cause the screen to show a bright green line down the right side from top to bottom.
The bright green line has shown in the exact same spot on all four screens that have failed from being dropped.
I tried buying at Amazon twice to save money... I was sent used screens.
I'm sticking to iFixit because they send me new screens and if I have a problem there's no hesitation in them taking care of me.
