Background
It is called a "cylinder" lock because the lock mechanism is housed in a cylindrical casing, which is inserted into the door.
Euro Cylinder locks come in different sizes and shapes, but most commonly have a circular shape with a keyhole in the center. They typically have a removable core, which can be replaced without having to replace the entire lock. This makes them popular in situations where there are multiple locks that need to be keyed alike, such as in apartment buildings or office complexes.
Euro Cylinder locks can be operated with a key from either side of the door, or with a key from one side and a thumb turn from the other side. They can also be fitted with additional security features, such as anti-drill and anti-pick features, to make them more resistant to tampering.
