Recovery Mode (Installing Mavericks)

It seems to be stuck on 20 minutes.... Is this something to do with the systems clock time? To what date and time do I need to set it as if it were done with an external installer it has to be 2018 or something... I'm unable to install from an external drive due to a potentially previous OCLP patched system. This is using Apple servers in recovery mode. I'm not sure of the current clock setting, but the Internet connection should automatically set this as it is connected to the WiFi.

Apple signs is OS installers! So if the key 508 key has expired within the installer the current date will be in conflict! Here we don't want to be connected in any way to the internet so we can manually alter the date to be within the required date the 508 signature is expecting.

As this was a major issue back in the day as Apple set a very short Date in the 508 key they have republished the installers a few times as they saw this as a bad PR move (we and many others complained) so while Apple did refresh the keys on many OS installers, over time the older ones will finally expire with no replacement. Double check the date of your local installer and what Apple still has listed is yours the same date and time? If yes then its possible Apple finally stopped refreshing the 508 key on this installer and you need to isolate your system from the internet so you can backwind its date so the installer functions locally only.

Yes Dan this I know, BUT, 1: My installer for Mavericks isn't found.... I have to use the internet to connect to recovery mode and download the Mavericks system.... Apple servers surely won't work if the system date is set 7 or 8 years back.... I will work it out.... long day tired and hot :) 020821002014 wifi off... done it :)

@livfe - that gets into the disks format and the systems firmware. Mavericks requires HPFS or HPFS+

Apple released a special release of Mavericks: 10.9 (13A2093) so make sure you aren't trying to use the older CD version you want the 10.9.5 version being the last update.

That's correct! You can't access the Apple servers with a back dated system. And Apple has not maintained the Recovery servers versions! So you are double dammed! Your only option is to download from the Download servers the OS installer and setup bootable OS installer drive to install Mavericks if that's a requirement. I would just get to High Sierra and be done with it.

@danj Mavericks installed fine and now updating one by one to get to Big Sur to ensure all firmwares are updated. OCLP forces to do it this way correctly otherwise we get mixed firmwares and potential boot issues. So far so good, I do it this way all the time to recover OCLP'd units.

@livfe - Yes, OpenCore can be a battle!

@danj Yup, after burning so much time on this issues before I just go the 'long' way around but it's fine as the end result is fully without issues. Anyways, it does indeed appear that it needs a new track pad (+ Battery)...... Cannot complain, a few free Retinas all mostly with this issue that the repair shop couldn't solve and the owners abandoned them :D
