We have a French door refrigerator with a bottom freezer and an ice maker inside the freezer. It is less than 2 years old. The ice maker now makes a loud knocking sound and has stopped making ice. After searching online, I tried using a hair dryer on low which fixes it for about 2 days. Now LG wants to charge me a $349 fixed rate to fix it and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this flat rate program, especially with ice makers. Thanks!

Here's the service manual for the refrigerator model series, that may help to find out what's wrong.
Go to p.21 to view the procedure to check if error codes E Is or E It have been stored (or any other error code as well)
If error codes pertaining to the ice maker are stored go to p.83 and perform the ice maker test function and check.
If the ice maker is faulty and needs to be replaced, here's a video that shows what to do.
Search online for AEQ72909603 to find suppliers that suit you best.

Thanks again. I did the troubleshooting in the service manual and got an F5 error indicating a freezer defrosting sensor defect. That would explain the ice buildup in the ice maker which I can defrost with a hair dryer but it comes right back.
