My Macbook only has 2 of 4 bars while my Macbook Pro has full connectivity all over the house. Does this mean the card needs to be replaced? I also have the inverter cable problem, but I have found how to fix that.
Also, do you think these problems are worth fixing on such an old laptop? Thanks, in advance!

It sounds like you have been inside your machine...did you disconnect the antenna cables from the Airport when you were inside? Could they be loose and not properly snapped into place? Regardless, first I would try re-seating the antenna cables. If that doesn't work, try reversing the sockets they are plugged into. If that doesn't help, replace the Airport, and make sure to get a wireless-N model (AR5BXB72), since you probably only have wireless-G at this point. I just found one on eBay for $12.99 shipped.
If that doesn't work, you probably have faulty antenna cabling. In all honesty, the cabling is the most likely culprit overall, but re-seating the cables is free and a replacement card is very cheap, so it's definitely worth trying those things first.

Like I mentioned, probably the best card to get is the wireless-N AR5BXB72. An A1181 backlight issue can be the screen, inverter, inverter cable, or the board. I'd go with swapping the inverter cable first, and if that doesn't do it it's probably the screen. If your MacBook is 2006, it will most likely need the 4-wall version of the inverter cable, but I'd pop the topcase and verify the board-end of the cable, just in case you don't actually have a 2006.
When searching for the card on eBay, make sure to include "MacBook" in the search, since this model was made for other brands as well, and those might be slightly different.

Yes I think it's likely. Many things can effect airport cards, antenna position/ damage, age, overheating of the laptop. dropping the laptop. The cost of a new card is not high, and it's not terribly difficult to replace. How much a working laptop is worth is something only you can determine.
