The Ridgid R45101 is a 10 inch jobsite table saw released in 2012.

On off switch smokes

Hasn’t been used for a while is plugged into 20amp plug with 12 gauge extension cord. Motor started as usual and stepped up to full rpm. Made 1 cut ok. Switched off next cut turned on stepped up then quit. Went to flip switch off and wispy smoke was coming out of switch. Unplugged and here I am

Hi Bod,

usually the switches can handle much more current than the nominal current of the device. Please check if there is dust and moisture concentration on-in the switch. Otherwise I would recommend to find a replacement part. If you reach the switch you can also check if there are any cables almost detached from the switch itself.

Agreed. Switch or attached wiring looks suspect. Smoke comes from severely overheated cable insulation when the conductor is carrying too high a current. If the db board switch didn't trip, it indicates a dead short is not likely. Another cause should be looked for as suggested by Gavriil. If you can measure the current it may tell you something for example a field or armature winding problem. If the very thin insulation coating of these windings overheat they may cause a local inter coil short, increasing the current and thus the heat generated. These motors are usually protected by a thermal cutout fuse to prevent motor damage. They usually fail permanently but can be replaced (if you can locate it). However the cause must be established.
