Battery not recognized

I replaced a battery with the MacBook Pro 13" Two Thunderbolt Ports Late 2020 Battery Replacement kit. The laptop turns on but the battery icon has an "x" in it. I am waiting for it to charge for at least 2 hours to see if that will change. I noticed that the kit didn't come with a battery board data cable. I used the one that was attached to the old battery. I reopened, detached, and reattached all the connections to no avail. The laptop is now stuck on the charger.
