Blinking red light when charging

I guess this is something to do with overheating? I did remove the case and re-seat the white connector inside but they still have this blinking red light after a few minutes of charging. I do not have the original charger at hand, so if anyone can give me the correct charger voltage to use it would be good, also, I tried to charge them from my MacBook via the USB and it is still blinking after a few moments..... Any ideas?
