Backlight problems with LED tv

hi all. I have a sinotech 32 inch led tv. The tv had a backlight issue and I left it for over a year. Got new backlights yesterday and I noticed a few off things.

Firstly the led strip is not the same length as the original strip, the bulbs are slightly off or on the side so creating a problem when the bulbs need to sit on the reflector sheet. At maximum only 4 or the 6 fit.

The second problem is that THERE is no difference with the new lights, when switch on the tv the lights flash and then go off. When I shine a flashlight on the screen I can see the tv is on and there’s audio on the tv when I increase/ decrease volume.

At this point I’m lost as to what could be the issue, anyone with an idea please help. Should I return the strips and find exact ones or is the design of the strips inconsequential? I’ll try uploading a pic

That brown cap at the top looks to have a bit of swelling.

Would it be a bad idea to puncture holes on my reflector sheet so to accommodate the new strips’ lining and then patch the gaps with another piece of sheet from an old tv? I’m asking cos these strips took me a while to get a hold of and it might be a bit difficult to find exact ones. This was the closest I could find to the original strips and the manufacturer said the don’t have them anymore

@godfreymokwena you can always try. We do not know enough about the connections on your power board. If it has an error detect circuit it may not work. You always want to fix any known errors first. Replace the faulty capacitor first.

@godfreymokwena I would definitely try to find the right backlight strips. First of all it will affect the way your picture will later look and second it may be the cause for the no change in condition. If your power board (current sensing circuit) does not read the needed current used by the strips, it may give you the same backlight error and will do the same thing as before.

Of course, it is also possible that this is a power board issue (backlight circuit). Since your TV appears slightly off-brand, it will be difficult to find any schematics etc. Let us know what manufacturer and model numbers are printed on your board or post some good pictures of that with your question.

Is it possible for the board to have a problem? Because everything seems to be working fine. I suspect the lights as well but I’m not too sure about it. There’s nothing that seems off on the board from what I can tell. I tried looking for a diagram online unfortunately can’t find 1

@godfreymokwena it does nto have to be off the board. It can be a MOSFET or any other component that may have issues. Some of the power supplies have a circuit that relies on the backlight strips current. If the strips do not utilize the "proper" amount of current the power board will signal a failure and cut the power to the strips. I would definitely start with proper backlight strips.

@oldturkey03 Do you know of a way to test a capacitor without multimeter? There’s a swollen or bulging capacitor on the main board, it’s the only one looking like that.

STL32W4 is the model.

@godfreymokwena post a picture of what you are looking at with your question. Let's see what you got going on there ;-)

@godfreymokwena definitely a blown capacitor. The values for it will be printed on the sides of it. Take a look at the numbers (should be a number followed by a V and another number followed by an Ω symbol)
