How can I upgrade this with a SSD?

I can speak on a few of the things you're asking about, but probably not all of them. 2.5" is the standard size for laptop hard drives. I will say that Intel SSDs are extremely good, and are the models we currently use in our machines. They aren't the cheapest on the market, but if you read a lot of reviews on Newegg and similar sites about inexpensive SSDs, people tend to experience a lot of failures before 6 months.

You say that you want a 250 GB drive; I will say that an SSD of that size is going to cost you. If the additional cost is fine for you, then by all means do it. My personal suggestion if money is not flowing so freely, though, is to get a smaller SSD (120/128 GB) and keep most of your bigger files like music, movies, and pictures on a separate spinning drive. You may use an external drive, or if you don't use CDs hardly ever, you may replace your optical drive with an optical bay hard drive enclosure. The hard drive you install in that enclosure will mount to your desktop just like an external drive, except you always have it with you!
