There is no audio
The audio went out on my unit. It started cracking and then went out. I tried attaching an external speaker, still no audio and even the headphone jack didn’t produce audio.

@ramonher do you have anything else you can connect besides the cable box? Something like a game console etc.? It could be the cable box (reset that) or the HDMI cable (try a different one). Worst case scenario is that the HDMI IC has failed. Use the schematics in here Sony Kdl 46v2500 to check that. You could of course also try factory reset on your TV.
From what you are describing it sounds more like an input issue then the actual TV hardware.

I don't have a cable box. I have Direct TV and they now have a fire stick type setup. The unit works fine on a different Sont TV, it attaches to the TV via a HDMI port, and it works on my other Sony TV just not the KDL 46V2500. It seems that my HDMI port on the 46v2500 doesn't work, audio wise. I can see the picture, just no audio.
@ramonher have you tried a different HDMI input (game console, BR or DVD player etc.) Since you do get audio with a different input like your sound generator it is most likely not your TV but it could be a settings issue etc. Double check your HDMI with a different input.
Sorry for not answering sooner. It seems that only the HDMI ports audio didn't work. When I hooked up an antenna, the audio worked just fine. Until recently, I got these distorted horizontal lines across the screen and then the set went black and I saw the blinking red light.
@ramonher definitely sound like a bad HDMI IC or port. of course you have tried a different HDMI cable.

Did the sound fail when the TV was on the cable box and then you switched to using DirecTV??
Has the sound ever worked OK on DirecTV?
Have you checked the TV audio settings using the DirecTV remote?
On the DirecTV remote press Menu and then go to Settings > Audio > Dolby Audio and check that it is Off.
Then using the TV remote control go to Menu > Sounds > Target input and make sure that the applicable HDMI port is selected

The sound was working just fine, and then all of a sudden it started cracking, and then went out, all of this will suing the Direct TV fire stick. I will give your suggestion a try.
None of that worked.
You may have to try another DirecTV dongle as it's seems like it is the problem, given that sounds work using other signal sources
I would agree with you about the dongle, except that same dongle works on another tv. Currently the dongle is plugged in to my Sony KDL40R10C and the audio works just fine.
You've tried another signal source although I'm not sure how you plugged a sound generator into a HDMI port and made it work.
There has to be a compatibility issue between the dongle and the HDMI ports
If you didn't test that the HDMI port works but tried another port type e.g. AV then it's looking like the HDMI controller in the TV has gone

What is the model number of the TV?
Have you tried different signal sources e.g. dvd player, stb or cable box etc, a different input type e.g. HDMI, Component video + audio, Composite video + audio or even different cables to prove that the problem is in the TV and not external to the TV?

I have tried several different cables, as well as tried using headphones. Still no audio. I don't even hear the "snow" when I turn on the TV.
