Mode dial broken at the shaft

Mode dial broken at the shaft, could ifixit do a video on how to repair it and the tools I need?

I've been looking for a repair video, so far almost nobody does it and only recommend super glues or gasket makers...

So I'll be undergoing that daunting task...

@dilsiam Teh iFixit team really has not a lot of time to create specific requests. There are just to many device and to little time for this. This is where normal users like you and I come in. Most of the guides on here are made by the community. We create those and post them on here. Let's say you start working on your camera, take lots of pictures. Once you are done with it, take those pictures and create a guide for iFixit. That way the next person that runs into issues with their camera, would have the help they needed based on your guide. It's easy and fun to create these guides. https://ifixit.com/Guide/new The iFixit community will appreciate this.

As for your repair, we really would need to see how the dial broke off. Post some well-focused images of this with your Question. That way we can see what you see. 在已经存在的问题里加入图片 Personally I am not a fan of "super glue" etc. If anything, I would try and use some epoxy resin. I just have more luck using that stuff instead of adhesives. Looks like Canon even considers the Mode Dial a Non Serviceable part Canon EOS450D Parts List

Ok, thanks for your answer as far as the mode dial being non-serviceable I have my doubts.

The mode dial popped off from the shaft, so you can't change the mode dial settings for example: Av to say P

I've been doing my research I haven't got to the part of the mode dial being repaired per sé. I do know where to get the mode dial with its shaft...

What I can say about the repair is that it is super tedious to unscrew those teeny tiny screws and disassemble the camera without ripping the ribbons...and without losing the screws and also put them where they were...

You have to get to the top cover where all the buttons are...

@dilsiam "the mode dial being non-serviceable" I guess what Canon is saying is that the dial is not available as an individual part, hence the descriptor "not serviceable" for the dial alone. Heck yes, this looks like a PITA to do, but it's better than to bin the camera. :-)

Thanks again @oldturkey03, yes it is a PITA but I'll do my best to do what you said on your answer I have more cameras to take the pictures asked and make an album for the community. Hopefully more people won't have to throw away their Rebel EOS XSia and if it isn't possible to fix it it would have been an interesting and exhilarating trip :-)

@dilsiam that'll be outstanding. That way we can hopefully have more people keep their cameras. Saves money and keeps stuff out of the landfill.

I've taken apart and reassembled a mode dial on a Canon Rebel T3, so they definitely usually can be serviced. However, if you're planning on replacing it, makes sure that you are able to find a replacement mode dial. Alternatively you can also just replace the entire top cover of the camera, which would also make fixing the issue easier. Fortunately, it appears like you'd be able to disconnect all the cables connected to the top cover without the need for soldering (which isn't always the case).
