Tips to replace GE washer inlet valve circa 1990

Hello: washing machine fills and operates fine on Cold. No water coming in on Hot side. Up to now, I removed the hot side hose from the washer, and use it to manually fill the tub with hot water.

Am preparing to replace the valve. Was surprised to see the hard bend in the outlet hose when it exits the valve. See pictures. What is the best way to remove that outlet hose? Try to slide the clamp away from the valve and down the hose? I am concerned about the outlet line leaking. I thought I saw a crack, but seems to be a mold mark that runs the length of the hose.

Is it helpful to remove the sheet metal colored panel to get some more working room?

It appears the outlet line is part of an assembly that directs water into the tub. Am trying to avoid leaks when I install hose on new valve. Could I use a metal screw-type clamp, instead of the spring type?

Any tips from those who have performed this job are appreciated. Thank You

@ralguy I would try to remove as little as possible so as to not create any unnecessary stresses.

  • I'd remove the electrical wiring
  • Then the screws that hold the valve to the chassis (Red arrow)
  • Then loosen the clamp with a pair of locking pliers (keep it locked open) (Blue arrow)
  • Now move the valve body inward to clear the chassis and then move it away from the water hose. (Green Arrow)

Thank you, oldturkey03 and jayeff, for the responses. I will keep working on it. Might get more leverage by working the valve body back and worth, as I hold the clamp open.

I forgot to ID the washer. Model is WJSR2080T8WW serial - LS157698G.

Hi @ralguy

Just verifying that you checked that 120V AC is being applied to the hot water inlet solenoid valve, when it is required to be operated by having the hot/warm temperature option selected for a wash cycle?

If the valve is faulty here's a link that has a video that shows how to remove the valve assembly.

It is a dual valve assembly. You cannot replace either the hot or the cold valve separately as they're not available individually. Also there's no internal valve parts e.g. washer, spring, actuator etc available for them either ;-(

Search online for WH13X10024 to find suppliers that suit you best.
