Computer is randomly shutting off. Overheating?

My laptop will just shut off like the battery was removed when I pick it up and put pressure on the bottom or sometimes it just happens. I think it might somehow be overheating but the fan still seems to spin. I replaced the thermal paste and that didn't seem to help. maybe its a battery issue? It doesn't flash a shutting down screen it instantly just goes black.

It seems unlikely to be a thermal (fan) problem, given that you say it sometimes shuts off when you pick it up. Does it shut off regardless of where you are holding the laptop, or only if you are holding the laptop in a particular spot? I'm guessing the latter, so my guess is that there is a loose or broken wire or connector inside the laptop, possibly near where you are holding it.

Since you've already taken it apart to replace the thermal past, I would take the bottom cover off, turn the laptop on, and (carefully, and while wearing an anti-static strap) put pressure on the various parts in the area where you were holding it locate the loose or broken connector/wire. There's no guarantee this will do the trick, but it may help you narrow down the location of the fault. If you find a loose connector, just snap it back in, otherwise you may need to replace a cable or solder a broken connector or wire.

QUESTION: When it "just happens,":

1) Are you actively using the laptop, especiallly are your hands on the keyboard/trackpad?

2) Is the laptop sitting on a something completely flat & stable (table top, for example), or on your lap, such that it could be flexing the body as you use it?
