Front glass or whole frame?

Im debating on attempting front glass replacement on my phone. Tried on my A42 last year with no luck.i know the screen replacement with frame is the easiest and fastest. I can't find anything on just glass replacement.

Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks

@jeremyyoun78592 if you have never done a glass only repair, stay away from it. The first couple of times will be a mess. It takes practice and some good tools to do glass only repair. By the time you add the cost for the tools and the consumables, you can have paid for a complete assembly with midframe :-) and still have money left over for a coffee.

There are many YT videos that show Glass only repairs and they all look so easy :-) which none of that is. Of course, If you only want to practice and want to give it a try. Just do a search for Glass only repair. You'll come across videos like this that make it look so easy. Again, it's not. Anyhow, the video link is not an endorsement or the seller etc. It is just an example.

@jeremyyoun78592 it's a total PITA. Especially Samsung screens. Those are nice when they work but dang, they are flimsy in repair. Broken a few new ones myself :-) The newer Samsung models are just much easier to fix with the midframe. Whatever you decide on, best of luck to you. Keep repairing.

Hi Jeremy,

It's a judgement call; I recently had a broken screen I was going to fix on a Samsung for a friend, but unfortunately the screens were still going for over $130 for a replacement. So I thought I'd give a front glass kit a shot. It came with a lot of tools and equipment and looked doable, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get the shim in between the OLED and the front glass correctly and ended up damaging the OLED, so I ended up replacing the whole screen anyway. But for $30 it was worth a try, to me at least.

There's a company that appears to be specializing in front glass replacement kits, but looking at their catalog it doesn't appear they offer a kit for your A54 yet. I see one that lets you pick between A50, A70 and A80, but not the A54. Although it says it's "Compatible with all carriers/sub models of Galaxy A50/70/80", I suspect that doesn't include models in between like your A54.

However, they do sell a universal kit where you supply your own front glass and they give you everything else you need.

Couple that with a cheap glass from AliExpress and who knows, you might be able to fix your existing screen for around $35 USD.

So there's what you'd need to know to attempt a glass only repair on your own; my suggestion would be to go ahead and buy a replacement screen then afterwards you can take on the glass repair at your leisure. Or if you're not in a hurry, you can go for the glass repair and order a new screen afterwards if it doesn't work out.

Either way we'd love to hear what you decide and how it turns out for you! If you give the glass repair a try it would be great if you could take lots of pictures, then we could see about putting together a guide to that repair for people who follow after you who have the same issue.
