How to replace the motherboard?

What is wrong with the laptop that requires a complete motherboard replacement?

Here's the hardware maintenance manual for a ThinkPad T15 Gen 1 model (Machine Type 20S6 & 20S7)¹

Go to p.81 to view the procedure to remove/replace the systemboard².

There are 190 different systemboards compatible with the model. To get the same one as you have now, once you start to disassemble the laptop to remove the systemboard there should be a sticker or information on the board which shows the Lenovo part number for the board e.g. 5B20Z46023 or 5B20Z45923 etc.

Once you have found the part number on your board, search online for the part number only to find suppliers that suit you best.

If you have a ThinkPad T15 Gen 2 model (Machine Type 20W4 & 20W5)¹ here's the hardware maintenance manual for it. Go to p.83 to view the procedure to remove/replace the systemboard.² There are also 190 different systemboards available as well.

¹ The Machine Type (MT) number for the laptop can be found on the product information label on the bottom of the laptop.

² See the note in the systemboard removal/replacement procedure regarding inputting the exact brand name to identify the machine type i.e. Gen 1 or Gen 2 types when replacing the board.
