Is Upgrading a logic board possible?

My friend fried his 2.3 i5 logic board in his early 2011 13" MBP (liquid spill). I can get a replacement one for about $550, but I can get a 2.4 i5 board for about $525.

The 2.4 board is found in the late 2011 models, and I was wondering if they are compatible. Meaning, if I just swap the 2.3 with the 2.4, will everything else work in the MBP? I already replaced his top case and made sure nothing else was damaged, so the logic board is the last variable.
