Good or bad Tps51285a installation?

Hello there, I have a laptop with a defective Tps51285a that was replaced but I wanted to ask if the repair guy did a good job replacing it and if its possible that this part damaged other parts to (the Tps51285a burned because of a short) there you can see the before and after pictures

In the first picture you can see the melted IC.

in the second you can see the pcb without the IC, and the damage that it has done.

And in the third you can see the new IC.

But the laptop didn't work so I wanted to ask if maybe it wasn't good enough or maybe the ic broke some other part before it burned

@abonion1500 we really can't see this as good as we would need to. We also do not see if the IC was soldered down using the proper direction. Is pin 1 on the right direction? The last picture is a bit "dirty" and does not show the traces well enough. Personally I would have tried to rebuild them instead of those solder blobs. Or maybe even used jumpers.

But, all of this is based on your pictures. We shall not speak wrong about the person that fixed this for you. Everybody has their own way of doing a repair. If it does not work, it could be this repair, or even a short circuit on the board. After all, there has to be a reason why your IC went up in smoke.

You can send the board to someone else if you are unsure of this. Or you need to do more troubleshooting to see what else is going on with the board.

Hello,

the TPS51285 has a thermal pad on the underside. This pad must be soldered on to dissipate the heat from the component. This pad was torn off during desoldering (see 2nd picture). As a result, the module can no longer dissipate its heat and switches off internally - so it cannot work.
